Why I Coach? - Joe Matthews

At the core of it, coaching can be a highly challenging and equally rewarding career. As a coach in the world of sport, health, and fitness, I get so much happiness, enjoyment, and satisfaction out of seeing people improve both physically and mentally, become better people, and achieve goals that they never thought possible.

Coaching is both a science and an art form that constantly challenges me to level up my communication skills, expand my knowledge, and sharpen my ability to understand an issue and find a solution. Sometimes there doesn’t seem to be an easy answer, so I’m always learning.

My understanding of coaching and mentoring when I first started out certainly wasn’t what it is now, and my gratitude for being able to do this has evolved considerably over the years. Initially, I chose coaching because I wanted to work in sport and run my own business. I still enjoy that aspect of it, but today it’s become so much more than that.

Being around motivated, solution-driven people on a daily basis is something I draw strength from for everyday life. I only hope I can give some of that energy back to the people I coach and my team at RF.

I get to work with people from all walks of life and diverse industries. Talking with and learning from them every day constantly broadens my perspective on the world—it’s easily one of my favorite parts of the job.

See you in the gym!
