Lifting belts can be a very useful tool for helping you create intra-abdominal pressure (IAP), which in turn helps maintain your normal spinal curvature during heavy lifts.
However, it’s essential to learn how to activate your deep abdominal muscles first before using a belt. This can be practiced in isolation and under the supervision of your coach on lighter lifts. Once you understand how to brace your core, you can choose a belt that suits you and learn to use it effectively.
A belt can certainly assist you when you’re ready to lift heavier weights—not only by supporting and stabilizing your midsection to protect your spine but also by providing a psychological boost.
So, I would say yes to purchasing a lifting belt, as long as you’re willing to take the time to understand its purpose and use it properly.
Have a great week, in and out of the gym!
